Fall Skin - Must Haves | AE.R Skinlab, Vancouver

By: Geelda There are certain things I can't live without during the fall season. Our skin deserves extra care as the weather gets colder. Today I will be sharing some tips on what I do to keep my skin hydrated and healthy as the seasons change, and I will also be sharing the best treatments to get. Fall is the season to focus on skin renewal. It's the best time to get laser treatments, peels, and mironeedling. Some of my favorite skincare ingredients include vitamin c, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, oils, and centella asiatica. Vitamin c protects the skin from free radical damage, so this is an important ingredient to keep all year round with your sunscreen. Hyaluronic acid is the perfect ingredient to prevent dehydration because it binds to water to help retain moisture. Glycerin is a naturally occurring molecule which increases water retention within the skin, keeping it moist and supple. The skin benefits of ceramides include moisturizing skin, as well as protecting the skin from environmental damage and bacteria. When it comes to oil, a lot of people are not open minded about adding it into their skincare routine thinking that it will cause them to break out. Coming from someone with combination skin, this isn't always true. If you are already dealing with breakouts, then adding oil may not be the best idea in that moment. I am someone who has acne prone skin, and I can safely add oils into my routine without having it cause breakouts. In the colder seasons, it really helps prevent my skin from becoming dry and irritated. A lot of these oils (example: rosehip oil, chamomile oil, argan oil) can add a lovely glow as well as protect your skin. Make sure oils go on last after your moisturizer and pat it into the skin to lock in the hydration. Last but not least, centella asiatica is one of my favorite calming ingredients. It helps your skin barrier retain moisture and reduces redness and inflammation. After treatments, our skin will often become red and sensitized temporarily. It's so important to have something at home that can help heal your skin faster during that period. There's little to no downtime (only 24-48 redness and sensitivity) and it's a great treatment for fall because you don't have to worry about too much sun exposure during the healing process. It's still recommended to wear SPF 35+ and have a mask at home to reduce the redness (example: phyto corrective mask). Chemical peels remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new cells. Some may experience some peeling while others don't. It really depends on the strength of the peel used and the state of your skin. You can combine a series of microneedling and chemical peels for intense stimulation and deeper penetration of skin cells for optimal rejuvenation. Another treatment that pairs well with these is IPL: Photorejuvenation. It uses many wavelengths to fix unwanted skin pigment conditions or vein changes (usually 4-6 treatments are recommended for best results).
